Southern Columbia Cheerleading Association (SCCA) is a dedicated cheerleading league created to foster the spirit and skills of young athletes in our community with the focus on cheerleading as a sport. At SCCA, we are committed to providing a comprehensive cheerleading experience that accommodates interested participants.
Southern Columbia Cheerleading Association offers two main teams:
SCCA Black- Youth Rec Team: For younger athletes new(er) to cheerleading ages 8 & up.
SCCA Gold- Junior Rec Team: For older children with experience ages 10 & up.
SCCA’s program is open to residents within the Southern Columbia area and welcomes participants from neighboring districts.
Age eligibility as of September 1, 2025.
Our first competition is generally at the beginning of November, and our last competition is usually in March. Our black team will do roughly five competitions while our gold team will do 8-10.
Tryouts for SCCA are an opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and be placed on a team that best fits their abilities. During tryouts, we will focus on stunting, motions, jumps, and tumbling—the core elements of our routines. Athletes will work with coaches to demonstrate proper technique, sharp and precise motions, controlled and powerful jumps, and their current level of tumbling. Stunting evaluations will help determine flyer, base, and backspot positions based on skill, strength, and experience. No matter your level, we encourage all athletes to try out, as we look for potential and a strong work ethic just as much as skill. Our goal is to create well-rounded teams where every athlete can grow, improve, and contribute to a successful competition season.
Tumbling Skills Development
If your aspiration is to compete at the Varsity level when you become eligible, improving your tumbling abilities becomes increasingly critical. The Varsity squad requires a minimum of a tuck from all team members. If you aren't already enrolled in tumbling lessons, we highly recommend that you consider them. Such lessons will help you enhance your standing and running tumbling abilities and prepare you for the more competitive levels of cheerleading as you grow older. It can take years to master advanced tumbling skills.
Practices will begin in June. We typically practice once per week.
Attendance is crucial for team building and perfecting our routines. We will also have mandatory choreography sessions, with dates to be released once they are confirmed.
You will need to purchase a uniform. Uniforms for the black team will cost approximately $125, and they will be yours to keep. Gold team uniforms typically cost around $200, and they will be yours to keep. These are estimates, and prices may vary.
We would like to do fundraising to help pay for uniforms, choreography, and music. A few years ago, we were successfully able to pay for uniforms, music, and choreography without putting any money out of pocket, and we have been able to cover choreography and music the past few years without collecting any money out of pocket.
Please note that there are costs associated with cheerleading, and we will do our best to defray or eliminate some of these costs through fundraising:
Registration Fee: $60 due upon committing to a team. Pays for insurance and fees.
Uniform: $125-$200. Yours to keep.
Choreography: Approximately $100 per cheerleader- due July 15th
Music: $25 per cheerleader- due August 15th
Monthly Gym Fee: $35 (starting the first practice and due the 15th of each month) Pays for facility usage.
Competition Fees (in the fall): Last year was $150 (divided into two payments of $90 and $60); this year should be around the same but total is subject to change, depending on how many competitions we do/registration fees for each. Regardless, 1st payment due September 15th/ 2nd payment due October 15th. This pays for your athlete's registration for each event.
