SCCA is open to athletes ages 7 and up in the Southern Columbia area and neighboring districts. Age eligibility is determined as of September 1, 2025.
We run two teams:
SCCA Black (Youth Rec) — Typically our younger and/or newer athletes up to age 12.
SCCA Gold (Junior/Senior Rec) — Typically our older and/or more experienced athletes; however, younger athletes may be brought up depending on skill level/team structure.
This year there will be no traditional tryout at SCCA. All athletes will practice together for the first month of the season, giving coaches time to evaluate each athlete and giving athletes time to settle in, build skills, and show what they can do. Teams will be announced after that initial training period. Placement is based on a combination of factors including age, experience, and overall readiness — determined by coaches.
Practices start in June, typically on Sundays no earlier than 11 AM. Competitions run November through March — about 5 events for Black and 8–10 for Gold. Attendance at all practices, competitions, and mandatory choreography sessions is expected.
Tumbling takes years to develop, and it becomes increasingly important at higher levels — Varsity requires a minimum of a tuck. If your athlete isn't already in tumbling lessons, we strongly recommend starting. It's one of the best investments you can make for their long-term growth in cheer.
